Encryption. We’ve all heard the term bandied about. It’s how our data is kept secure as it travels through the Internet and is defined on dictionary.com as “2. To put (computer data) into a coded form.” But how does it work?
To be honest, I’ve never given it much thought. Like most people, I just appreciate that it’s there and hope that it’s keeping my credit card number safe as I place my order online.
I was surprised to find out that how it works is pretty interesting. A coworker sent me a link to a video on wimp.com that explains, in very simple terms, how encryption keeps our data secure. Take a look… it’s 3? Mod 17 ≡ 5 minutes well spent.
