We recently hosted another Talk It Over Tuesday event for which we created a presentation in “Prezi.” For those of you who are unfamiliar with the program, it is an online presentation tool that spins, zooms and can take you on a wild visual ride!
There are some shortcomings, but for the most part Prezi can really vamp up your presentation and make it much more interactive and lively. It’s kind of like going on a rollercoaster ride, minus the nauseous, uneasy feeling, and subsequent headache. The presentation spins, rotates, and zooms according to the predetermined path you select.
The tool (as seen below) takes some getting used to, but it doesn’t take long to become comfortable with this new format. Once you use Prezi, it will be hard to go back to standard presentations.
There are some limitations with this tool. First, you can’t print your presentation. Second, you must use their templates which include predetermined fonts, colors, backgrounds, etc. Unfortunately, you can’t stray from those designs regardless of the subscription package you chose. Finally, since it is a web-based tool, there are storage limits for your presentations. However, one subscription option does allow you to save the presentation locally and work offline.
We are hoping that Prezi will upgrade soon with less restrictions on things like font and color selections but even with the current constraints a Prezi presentation is much more visually appealing than the standard software we’ve all seen a thousand times.
